Sunday state of the Saber: Easter Sunday.
Apr. 24th, 2011 03:02 pmHave a good Easter/Egg-Hunting/Spring Day. :)
Next week will be busy, as D is away at reservist in-camp. Have to wake up earlier to catch the bus. Likewise, it will be an interesting week as the elections are coming and cue the parties amping up their canvassing. I have thoughts regarding the elections, but I will save them for later, since I will end up ranting.
A request:
Anyone game to illustrate a book of children's sff? 2,444 words?

Monday state of the Saber: mid-CNY week.
Feb. 7th, 2011 09:14 pmFifth day of the Chinese New Year. Most of us - well, in Singapore - have gone back to work. And boy, Monday came back with a vengeance. Awful traffic jams caused by accidents. I saw a pair of sport shoes, strewn apart from each other, while a fallen motorbike lay desolate on the road. Took almost 30 minutes to clear one stretch of the expressway. By then I was already late for work.
Work is interesting. I feel...creative.
Dot has fever, but it doesn't seem to hinder her. I suspect a growth spurt.
And SPORE-CON 2011 is in the works. I have TO duties!
Now to be motivated like this for the rest of the year!

So we had a long National Day weekend, ending today (which I would then turn in and wake up to Wednesday, to work).
National Day was spent at my folks'. My dad made his honeyed chicken wings, always a tradition in our household. My mom made curry and roti prata. The National Day Parade itself was oddly blase. Sure we had the usual fly-past and the soldiers marching in smart columns - but all the songs were re-hashed and the costumes were tacky. It felt as if the organizers had run out of ideas. It also struck me that the reason why we ran of ideas because we are still looking for that essential Singaporean identity, dammit.
Corrine May's song was folksy, very typical of her style. But so not a National Day song. Too introspective and not catchy enough. It would be nice, though, if she sings in a cosy bar with thoughtful listeners.
But the girls had fun.
I am still debating as to whether I should go for Worldcon. Either way, it's still very expensive. :(
Seventh Month and Ramadan start today

Down again.
What gives?
Argh!
On happy-making news, Lammas is around the corner. Dot's birthday happens to fall on the same day.
On writery news, book two is gathering speed and the characters are growing too. Taking unexpected turns the story is. Though I am too tired to write more. :(
If you know people who like urban fantasy set in a different land besides American or United Kingdom, please tell them about my new book coming out next year. Little things help.

Saturday state of the Saber: updates.
Jul. 24th, 2010 09:32 pmHad great fun with
fantasyecho. We had yummy (ohmygodyummydeliciousNOM!) choco cheese cake at the Cookie Museum (at the Esplanade).
We talked a lot (writing, activism, POC, SFF and steampunk). Had our shoulders and feet massaged and nibbled by hungry fish - very relaxing.
And
fantasyecho, pitch your story idea. Pitch it, pitch it, pitch it!
Mmm, I will shelf the "Instant Gratification novel vs Slow-and-Steady Story" blog idea for the next time.
And yes, I will definitely plan for Wiscon. ;)
~*~
Cub attended yet another birthday party. A lot of screaming little girls, pretty girly things and noisy games. Most of the parents retreated to the outskirts of the party. :P

Saturday state of the Saber: whoa, tired.
Jul. 17th, 2010 11:14 pmTry as I might, but words aren't coming out. I ended up planning my lessons instead.
And folks, I am actually worried about my novel coming out next year. I mean, who am I? Would people care? Granted that I am writing under a pen name... but hey, would people actually care about a Singaporean urban fantasy author anyway?
Not sure if I want to head down to PHEMAS, though I renewed my membership. :P
