Can't breathe!
Jun. 20th, 2013 01:08 pmBad haze/smog conditions here. PSI reading of 371 currently - might be higher than expected. I can't see out of the window.
Shitty tuition center wants me to continue teaching.

Date: 2013-06-20 05:37 am (UTC)Technically NEA hasn't announced anything about indoor work - so far there's only been a thing about making sure to a) minimize outdoor work and b) ensure workers who are doing outdoor work have appropriate equipment to deal with it, and those who are susceptible to work indoors.
But with this kind of PSI, I do wonder if the tuition centres SHOULD close - neither parents nor teachers would want to be out in this haze...
(Unfortunately I'm still doing research in the uni. it's air-conditioned, which my apartment is most definitely not.)

Date: 2013-06-20 05:48 am (UTC)The lame answer I got from the center manager was that the parents paid.
So, money more important than health?
This is the Singapore I am living in. I don't want to live anymore.

Date: 2013-06-20 05:49 am (UTC)yup, that's what I thought - teenagers are growing too, and can be just as susceptible to the haze conditions.
Certainly you can't always trust that tuition centres have mainted good filters in their air-cons, if they had them.!

Date: 2013-06-20 05:54 am (UTC)Yeaaaaah.
(then again some parents DON"T have air-con at home - my flat doesn't have air-con for one, and I'm living with the landlord's family))
if your tuition centre is SO into giving the parents what they paid for, then they should invest in e-learning material, and allow you to work from home, where the kid can either IM or call you for help.

Date: 2013-06-20 05:56 am (UTC)But of course, this tuition center does not have e-learning materials.

So much for being an advanced technological society...
You'd think kids learn better online - I know I did because I could just look up what I wanted to at once, instead of having to go pester a librarian to figure out which textbook was available.
Not that I hated libraries - i hated pestering the librarians.

Date: 2013-06-20 06:01 am (UTC)I think I will probably turn up at the center with a mask and a lot of vitriol. Ugh. :(

Date: 2013-06-20 06:10 am (UTC)yeah. sigh
Still there are some parents who might think that since the tuition centre is 'indoors' it is safe enough to send their kids there.

The BBC guy said this morning that everyone in the studio is wearing a mask, except the person on camera.
