Wave Six: Light (Interlude) is up and running. I know, it's short, but it's an interlude.

Other than that, the prologue is free for download as well.

It's back to once-per-week postings after this one.

"I am the daughter of oyster-divers and pearl-gatherers. I am the descendent of the first-wave immigrants from old Terra Firma, the ancient Earth planet the grandmothers of the village speak so kindly of. I am the daughter of a line of women who risk their lives to dive for the treasures of the sea, the rough-shelled bivalves that give us food and beautiful orbs of beauty."

Says Mirra, daughter of the sea and curler of light magic, forbidden to her gender. What is she going to do?

Read Of Oysters, Pearls and Magic.

here.

Free download. And should I continue? This story wants to become longer. :P

A blast from the past: here. My story is Waiting For The Full Moon.

Final issue was in the year 2006. :(

Another warm and humid morning. About to continue a story line that waylaid me yesterday with the images of figs and family. My cat Meow is sitting right in front of me, his way of telling me that he wants Attention. He has been acting needy for the past couple of days.

And if you like reading YA or speculative fiction, please do take a look at Winged: A Novella, found here. If you like the stories, do feel free to download it or drop a couple of coins into the cyber-tin. Reviews (and brickbats?) are welcome.

So, off to figs, family and a world at war.

EDIT:
Just a little request and I feel nervous about asking this...

Does anyone want to do/create/make a cover for Winged? Payment is in the form of barter.

2nd EDIT:
Woot! A LJ friend "simplesue" has offered to create the cover! *happy dance*

Oh hai, I am totally new to the whole concept of cyberfunded creativity. :P

At the moment, I have placed Winged: A Novella, combining two novelletes (The Basics Of Flight and Phoenix With A Purpose) together on Scribd.

The two stories are YA (Young Adult), steampunk (for Basics) and science fiction with a dash of were-phoenix (for Phoenix). Both deal with young teenage girls coming to terms with themselves and finding their own places in their respective worlds.

It's free for download on Scribd but let me try this... If you like what you are reading, feel free to put a coin or two into my cyber-tin. The options are simple, just pay with Paypal and there are three prices: $2, $5 and $10 (all in Singapore Dollars). Simply choose the payment option you prefer.

And if you like, do post reviews or throw brickbats on Winged. ;)

Quotes:
"The problems facing female sff&h writers in south-east Asia are, however, much bigger than one of gender balance. The major problem is one of relevance. How relevant is sff&h perceived to be, to the life of the average Asian? At the moment, the answer is — I'm afraid to say — not at all. And just to finish off back in my local neck of the woods, Malaysia and Indonesia are both predominantly Muslim countries (total population close to 250 million), with a Muslim distaste for anything that detracts from a religious and pious life, coupled with a less than enlightened attitude to women (regardless of what the Koran may actually say). It is no surprise that I have found a fatwa against both reading and writing fiction of any kind. The region has a long way to go."

"There are several writing classes on offer in Singapore, but they concentrate on memoir-type writing. Malaysia, suffering from decades of neglect of the English language, doesn't even get that far. Fantasy and science-fiction are considered frivolous, except in the realm of
children's books."
