I know that the way restoration as it is in Singapore goes nothing from 'those times' are the same anymore. Definitely Lao Pat Sah doesn't look anything like the old market it used to be (now it's a sort of Kopitiam), and just about no building is old and historic unless you count some of the shop houses that had been converted into museums.
I'm not sure if there's a way we can come up with one. After all, we have so little space, it's not like we can do the same as in Britian or US and just keep them as little museum spots. :|
