The artistry of your sword sounds like it's a dress rather than a combat weapon, but that humming thing implies otherwise. Custom piece for someone rich/powerful?
Unless it's due to a very low sub-harmonic, it doesn't sound like it's an ultrasonic device - more like some sort of inductor/tranformer. Perhaps the blade is charged with some form of energy?
Unless those interns mentioned by the commenter are expendable, it might be better to poke a selection of (combustible/conductive and otherwise) inanimate objects with it before anyone actually touches it.
