I don't know what's worse: the fear-mongering by the media or the fear-mongering by well-intentioned people eager to help/give advice during this uncertain period.

Covid-19 has well and truly dominated everything. The media is non-stop talking about it. The economy is dying because of it. Governments are weaponising it for their own selfish purposes. Don't know who and what to trust? Yep. Social media has made it 1,000 times worse, because "everything said is valid and how dare you criticise me!".

Basically everyone is running in circles.

Geez. Can we even live past March without killing one another online, in FB or in real life?

EDIT:

Didn't attend ICFA, because it was cancelled.
I made the decision not to attend before they cancelled it.
Now Florida has confirmed cases and the US is a mess.
Actually the world is a mess now.

Swancon is cancelled too. Many cons are cancelled.
So... yes, I am actually quite furious with the virus.

I live alone, and work alone. The only time I have to go near other people is when venturing out to buy food, and I do that in the evening when it's quiet.
I'm probably about as safe as it's possible to be, so while I'm not overly concerned, I'm not going to be reckless.

I work from home (having quit teaching a while back). My spouse goes out and teaches. My two kids are in school. But no other contact with people (except for inlaws and my folks). I am concerned and anxious.

"Basically everyone is running in circles." That about sums it up here; in fact, your whole post is a good summary. And you can say the US is a mess without qualification. It was before, but this just puts the icing on the cake. I'm surprised school is still on there. In Ohio, schools were closed over a week ago. No one knows what they're talking about, but our governor is making himself famous for going on tv every day to reiterate that they don't know anything and they don't know what to do. We're on stay-at-home, but okay to go out for food and necessities. (Happily for most people, the liquor stores are still open.) I can see out my window, from the sudden increase of traffic, when someone has discovered a store with toilet paper or clorox wipes.

And the misinformation is just staggering. >.< People spreading fake advice and fake news are just jerks.

Schools are still running here but we are now embarking on a day of home-based learning. Our cases have reached the 800s, due to the people coming back from the US and the UK. It was in the low 100s before. We have built up dykes, but the dykes are leaking. :(

Several UK based airlines are suspending all operations until circumstances improve, so hopefully the leaks from here will be drying up soon.
