Still alive, now working at a school, and pretty much chugging along. There are days I swear I have bounding energy. There are also days I swear I have none, even, to get me out of bed. But work keeps me going.

I need to get back to pagan/spiritual stuff.

At least, things are moving for Rider-related stuff. Page proofs are in and they look gorgeous. Right now, I am also encouraged to start the sequel to Phoenix With A Purpose.

Hopefully, with this, things are looking up.

Birthday and stuff!

I turned 38 on the 1st of March.

And stuff... Rider's release is pushed back to a later date. Thank you all for being patient!

And...

Heart Of Fire, the third book of the Jan Xu series, is sold to Masque Books, the digital imprint of Prime Books. ;)

I announced it on my writery blog and now I am doing the same for my DW. ;)

I have a story up on the World SF Blog: Eagle Feathers.

Things are looking slightly better, though the finances are still on the red side. If you can, help me out.

This Sunday is Yuan Xiao, the 15th day of the Lunar New Year and technically heralding the end of the celebrations. The month is now edging into March.

Farewell 2012 and hello 2013!

To be honest, I am quite happy to see 2012 go. The year has been filled with ups and downs with the downs dominating the second half of the year.

Writing
Stories were published. Novellas were read. Submissions are - well- submitted. The Ayam Curtain, co-edited with J.Y.Yang, is published. A physical book, dammit!

And Yao Jin in Weird Noir. :)

Life
October, November and December were hardest on my emotions. The family is trying to cope with the issue of cancer. My cat has diabetes and has been in and out of the vet hospital. I think my emotions are frayed and gone to the point of exhaustion.

Finances
Not too pretty at the moment. I hope to get a job. Yes, job hunting, again.

Guess I am still coping with the stuff happening in my life at the moment. Right now: body sore, feeling exhausted, felt as if I didn't have a good sleep. The bit on trying to stay positive is taking a toll on my body.

So, I apparently signed on a tutor in tuition-mad Singapore. I still have doubts about it though, I admit. The orientation to new staff felt like a sales pitch and tutors have to market themselves like property agents. Revenue comes in by word of mouth (i.e, how well you perform as a tutor). It smells like a MLM here, doesn't it?

I am still throwing out resumes though. :P

October is where I start to feel the year slowing down and myself going inwards more.

Still tossing out CVs up the wazoo. October is interesting, to say the least. I am not sure, still trying to wrap my head around the idea I might be heading towards the vicinity of South Asia. Waiting for details to be confirmed.

Still dealing with crap (real and projected and perceived) with in-laws. I am getting tired of the "You are the mother" refrain. It's indicative of the problems underlying Singapore's issue: educated women trying to juggle/struggle with/against traditional/outmoded ideas. It's hard having your own dreams/ambitions and walk a damned mine-field of obligations. That's why people are refusing to have children.

Interview later today. Monday was an sub-editing test at a local TV station. Things seem to be looking up. Fingers and claws crossed. I don't want to jinx.

Meow is adapting to his new increased med dosage and new diet. My boy cat is now old. I give him scritches and he meows just like a kitten, nudging my hand and rubbing it.

My girls are growing fast. Cub is now a tween, Dot a terrible three. ;)

And I have placed a WIP on Wattpad. Another publishing platform. The writers there are mostly teens.

Meow, my boy cat who is now an elderly cat, got admitted to animal hospital last Friday. He was diagnosed with diabetes and hated being in the hospital. Right now he's happily sunning himself in the spot of sunlight. Much better-looking now and less miserable.

Meanwhile, job search continues with random hair-tearing and empty promises.

Meanwhile, contracts (writing/publishing) are getting drafted and signed (I hope).

I can only hope so much until my heart breaks. My heart has been broken too many times of late. Goddess knows why I am still standing, still (oddly) optimistic. It feels like I am hitting a wall all the time.

Dog Days of Summer edition

It has been sweltering hot in Singapore for the past few days. Yes, we do have summer too - and made worse by the high humidity. The best solution is to stay indoors and have a cold drink. But of course, we busy Singaporeans are always moving...

Remember Envisioning? My first collection of short stories. If you like it, buy it. :)

And I have been thinking about this as well: What is a writer's worth? Seriously, a writer must be the easiest and worst job ever. People say we don't earn much and our writing isn't work. Who would want to refute that?

So, just like that, after a vague meeting filled with more vague "feedback", I was out of a job. Good riddance. The school is a cesspit of politics (teachers versus teachers). May it implode on its own.

Good time now to do a bit of soul-searching and bare my teeth more. I am so tired of the politics, so hurtful and ultimately self-serving. I want it to stop.

Perhaps, I can focus on more writing.
