So, it's Sunday, post-election, and Mothers' Day.

So, the ruling party (PAP - People's Action Party) is still dominating the seats in parliament. The opposition got in about six seats. The blame game has begun with pro-opposition supporters accusing people for being all talk and no action. This is sad. We are inheriting a nation of young people who grew up privileged, arrogant and ignorant. Be afraid, be very afraid.

But it's not a landslide victory, dear state media. 60% is not a landslide victory. Get your stats and math right.

And the language being bandied around: repent, retarded... No, people, stop that. No, really, STOP THAT.

I have to say that I am disappointed and that I have lost faith in Singaporeans. People seem unable to think for themselves or are just happy to toe the party line.

~*~

I am down with the flu. Runny nose, coughing, the works. Cub made me a butterfly and a slew of poems for Mothers' Day.

For a few days, I have been struggling. With the usual self-doubt and self-disappointment. Am I again playing to a uncaring audience?

I suspect I will be full of words/thoughts/things for the next days.

I didn't dare log on to Facebook. It was immensely disheartening to watch people I know - the next generation, as you say - blithely assert that there is no need for change, no need for reflection - because there's no inequality, only complaint-prone ingrates.

And - you saw my tweets last night - it was heartbreaking to watch Chiam See Tong lose everything he'd staked.

But 60% is low. And I will be old enough to vote the next time elections come round.

OT: I'm sorry to hear you're ill. Happy Mothers' Day, and I hope you get better soon.

I see that in my classes too and I sometimes despair. I know that I can't change all, but for a few...

And yes, it was - and is - heartbreaking to watch Chiam See Tong lose everything. I saw the post-election pictures. My heart aches.

I will be better (I knew that I would fall sick, post my lesson observation). And thank you. :)

I'm thankful that on my Facebook at least, it was 95% talk of wanting changes - people of my generation who were deemed apathetic to politics who suddenly took up arms and took a strong stand of not wanting to be talked down to any longer.

My family and I just rushed down to Potong Pasir to sign a petition for a re-election in Potong Pasir. Not sure if it can happen, but it's better to do something than to whine about it.

I'm sorry for your election disappointments and being down with the flu.

But Happy Mother's Day to someone I know is a wonderful mother. :)
